Cu4tro Cantos

The Four Songs of Life

Cu4tro Cantos is the new Ala Eh Blog. Since I cannot provide pure Batangueño articles, I decided a revamp of the site, which I think is more appropriate. Cu4tro Cantos refers to the four members of the Cantos Family. In spanish, Cuatro means Four, and Cantos means Songs.

The Iconography of Modern Filipina

A Braver Sisa, a Stronger Maria Clara

Have you noticed how we like to compare the people we know to popular fictional characters? This is particularly true when we talk about Filipinas.

A common fictional character we use to describe a modern Filipina is the popular DC Comics heroine, Superwoman - because the Filipina is no longer ‘just the housewife’; she has taken not only the role of a house-maker; she’s also the husband’s equally able partner in providing the family’s bare necessities and shaping a better future for them.

She is her children’s Math tutor, she is the nosy yet protective sister, she is the ever-reliable best friend and many more…

On victimizing Young Filipinas through illegal recruitment - what Baranggays can do to help stop this

I saw the early evening news one night. There was the usual news on parties debating about Erap’s pardon; some politicians blatantly talking about their desire to run for presidency in 2010 (mahiya kayo sa balat nyo!!!, yung iba dyan, umpisa palang ng termino!)There was also something about Beyonce’s concert. On very disappointing (GMA and ABS-CBN) coverages of Pacquiao’s fights

Here’s a post that has been in the pipe line for a long time. We have done a lot of editing to lighten up the originally tense and pissed-off context of this post about the surprisingly lame coverage of local TV networks of ultra-hyped Pacquiao fights. Please read on.

Sunday (October 7, 2007 Philippines) The most awaited make-or-break Pacquiao-Barerra fight for the Super Featherweight title.

Manny Pacquiao is one of the best fighters in the history of boxing (that’s for sure). He’s won amazing fights and he’s a hero to many Filipinos. Yes, he deserves all his successes in his career and his personal life.

A Testimonial about the Power of Prayer and God’s Love – Part 1

How I prayed for my husband

Years later, I fell in love. Went broken-hearted then fell in love again. Went broken-hearted AGAIN then fell… Oh, you know the cycle.

The relationships I had before I met my husband were of weak foundation. Those were years of on and off tango with uncertainty; of good and bad times; of hoping and some more hoping. Each relationship, I would hope that the guy would be the one.
