How children show their feelings?
I confess, we never really have enough time spent everyday with our daughter. We usually leave home while she’s still asleep, and return from work when she’s already asleep again. This is pretty unwell, because it makes us feel that our work and life balance is IMBALANCED. Who says not?. And there oftentimes come weekend work. Just like today.
Sometimes I think, I want to go on night shift forever. At least I can have longer time with my little girl.
One day, I was reading some notes, when Sam asked for her milk. I pointed at the fridge and she went to it and opened it by herself. I was watching her while she hardly open the door (She’s 1 year and 7 months old). I have already prepared one bottle for her for I know that in a moment she’s gonna ask for it and she did. After she had opened the fridge, she shouted, “Woooooooow”, seeing her bottle of milk (i thought). But she picked up the other bottle without the milk. And I thought she just want to quench her thirst. She’s been playing since morning.
I went back to reading and in a little while I noticed her sitting under our kitchen table. She was trying to open the can of powdered milk with a spoon, which I forgot on the table. I didn’t do anything but smiled at her and helped her prepare a new one. And she happily drink it.
Few hours passed, she was playing and I was watching some cartoons when I heard a loud ‘bang’ followed by a ‘crack’ sound on the floor. I knew something fell down and broke. But it was not her.
I went to the kitchen and saw the gallon of water on the floor with broken cover. It looked like Sam pushed it and fell down. So I said, “Oh no. Look at what you did.” and then looked for a rag to dry the floor. When I came back, Sam has a handful bathroom tissue, wiping out the water on the floor. I just smiled. I was really surprised of her developments.
On that afternoon, before leaving home, standing at the front door, she ran to me and gave me a tight hug, tapping her hand at my back and then kissed me. Really, I don’t know what I felt that time. Sentimental feeling, it must be. After she kissed me, she went to her ‘temporary’ nanny, and waved goodbye. She was smiling when she said “Byyyyyyyyyyyyye”.
