How to Configure SE K608i 3G for Windows XP
After so many calls I made with Smart Wireless agents, after all opened tickets were closed unresolved, I finally got my 3G working. And I figured it out myself with the help of a lady on the phone whom I forgot her name. Who are you again?
Because I got fed-up of those many 24-hours call waiting suggestions I heard from Smart’s Customer Care? Agents, I decided to not call them again regarding this issue. I know, that there’s nothing I will get from them. I doubt that they know what to do with my problem or maybe they just ignore the problem. I even don’t believe that they even tried to call me when they said they did except the one missed call I saw the other day after my nth follow up.
The last time I spoke with a CSA, she suggested me to follow phone instructions. She thinks that I didn’t do that? She explained some several other steps and some configuration settings idea which I think I already knew but I still listened to her. And while listening, an idea started to formulate on my mind. Thanks for your time telling those things. You surely helped me with my problem. If I did not let you talk and talk and talk, I might probably have opened another nth number of tickets that will be closed unresolved again.
Cut! I can access the internet from home now in an acceptable 3G speed. Well, the speed depends on the 3G signal, the GPRS signal, and of course the Line signal. This is based only from my observation while using the service/device.
After getting successfully connected, I tried the Globe Bandwith Meter utility which I got the idea from an entry on PinoyTechBlog, “Smart 3G speed test“. The result says, my connection is 120+Kbps. It sometimes notch a little higher and sometimes lower. But most of the times, I was satisfied of the speed I was getting. The main reason why I wanted to have internet connection is to enjoy blogging at home, of course. Another is to enjoy the 3G service and maximize the use of plan 800.
So here’s how to configure your SE K608i 3G connectivity on Windows XP/2K
- Get your phone, make sure that there’s still room for new Data Comm entry and Internet Profiles.
- Activate/Reactivate your 3G service with your provider. (For Smart, Send 3G
to 211). - You will receive the settings via simple text. Be sure that your new settings will be saved. (refer to 1)
- Connect your phone with your PC running Windows XP/2K.
- Usually, the system will automatically detect your phone and ask you to provide the location of the device driver, when necessary. Be ready with the CD included in the phone package.
- After successfully completing the installation, your modem will be available for use on your system.
- Open the Network Configuration Wizard from Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>New Configuration Wizard.
- Follow the instructions. When asked for the dial number, user *9***99#.
- Open internet explorer and use the new connection to connect to the internet.
- That’s it. It worked to me.
Something strange though, after I successfully configured my 3G connection, guess what? Smart asked me to answer a satisfactory survey for their service. What do they expect from me?

i have that same frustrating experience with SMART’s customer service. i believe, it is there just to hold in abeyance your faltered expectations of some “too-good-to-be-true” service. i mean, they have been spending hundreds of millions for advertisings and a helluva lotta marketing craps to rake-in the most money from the “duped” subscribers, so they will get billions in return!
This Customer Care Crap, in reality, couldn’t care less! Your are legally-bound already to the terms and conditions of your service contract. And they are suppose to give you a rebate or some consolation from their ineptness AFTER you’ve done with the labyrinth of admin procedures of writing emails; wasted time over the phone; etc.
The good thing with blogging is that this leveled-off the playing field of electronically publishing your ideas, comments, sentiments, and the likes; for the rest of the world to read, listen, emphatize, etc.
These I would say about SMARTBro service:
SMARTBro: The DUMBEST and LAMEST WiFi Service in the country!
SMARTBro: Slower than any DUMB Sister!
SMARTBro: Sus! Myinternet’s Always Re-Tarded, Bro!
