I missed the Mayweather - Dela Hoya match months ago and I was wondering how did Mayweather defeat Dela Hoya. Oscar Dela Hoya is way advanced compare to him but when I saw his match against Ricky Hatton, I got the answer.

Mayweather knocked out Hatton on the 10th round with more than 1 min left. As Hatton swung his left towards Mayweather, he had his right lowered a bit, giving an opening for Mayweather’s hook. He calls it the “check hook”. And obviously it was hard solid sending Hatton’s forehead to the corner post. That’s really a miscellaneous punch. IIt was the first knockdown during the match and the following punches ended it. Mayweather won.
The two were really great fighters. They showed pure energy, they were both fast, they both threw punches to each other. The match was a hot one. Hatton could have lasted until the 12th round only if he did not give that opening. More than 15K fans from England flew to Vegas to show support for Hatton.
