My loving Mama
Last October 28 we celebrated Ley’s Christening and Sam’s 2nd birthday at Max’s Restaurant. My grandma (from my mother‘s side) whom we fondly call Mama, gave Sam a birthday card. It said she has lots of gifts for her in the Balikbayan package that she will be sending this November. She migrated to the US 20 years ago and she now lives with my Uncle in LA.
And oh, she said she has lots of gifts for Ley too. I just can’t help but smile. Even to her great-grand daughters she’s generous and thoughtful. She has always been like that. I remember she sent me greeting cards every birthday, and she always found time to call and greet me. She also sends me letters. Yep, snail mail will forever be romantic. She comes home yearly. I never felt that she was away. She communicated with me and our family regularly. She was there to congratulate me on my Grade School, High School and College graduations. She was here when I married Aldrin. She was there when I gave birth to my first child.
On December 30, Mama will be celebrating her 80th birthday. My mom and her siblings are planning a big party for her. I have an aunt in LA and she’ll be helping my mom and her other siblings shoulder the fees for the VISA and plane tickets. I really hope I can come. I would very much like to be beside her when she blows her birthday candles. I want to be there to personally give my birthday message to her. I want everyone to know how thankful I am for having her as my grandmother. (Plus I could undergo a tumescent liposuction in Los Angeles, California while I’m there. Just kidding!) But I don’t think the office will let me go on another long vacation, after all, I just got back from my maternity leave. She already went home last July for my uncle’s wedding in
To my Mama, thank you very much for being a great grandmother to us and more. To me you have been a good friend and a guardian angel. I thank God for keeping you healthy all these years. May God bless you with many more joyous years of wonderful memories! See you next year when you come home. For now, I would like to greet you an Advanced Happy birthday!
