On very disappointing (GMA and ABS-CBN) coverages of Pacquiao’s fights
Here’s a post that has been in the pipe line for a long time. We have done a lot of editing to lighten up the originally tense and pissed-off context of this post about the surprisingly lame coverage of local TV networks of ultra-hyped Pacquiao fights. Please read on.
Sunday (October 7, 2007 Philippines) The most awaited make-or-break Pacquiao-Barerra fight for the Super Featherweight title.
Manny Pacquiao is one of the best fighters in the history of boxing (that’s for sure). He’s won amazing fights and he’s a hero to many Filipinos. Yes, he deserves all his successes in his career and his personal life.
Every fight he played made difference. In the
“Wala nang kukurap dahil malapit na ang Laban” Yes, “walang kumurap kasi nakatulog na ang mga viewers”.
The commercials running over and over in between the rounds were very annoying. It’s like, we get it, you sponsored the delayed telecast of the fight. Thanks! So don’t show the commercial all over again after this round!!!@$#!
I just hope that next time, TV stations will consider having shorter commercial sets, if not zero, between rounds. I believe this would make the coverage more exciting to watch and sponsors will surely be more impressive to viewers. They can make use of just one advertisement or a filler where they show all the sponsors and there’s a voice over that would mention all of the sponsors. That would take 2 minutes. It’s not annoying.
So for future Pacquiao fights, local TV networks, please make an effort to better your coverages, cut the ‘paulit-ulit’, commercials. To the advertisers, please don’t make the TV stations show your commercials over and over. It just makes your products really annoying too.
We thank you GMA and ABS-CBN and the advertisers for bringing us closer to the fight; for letting us support Manny Pacquiao. But the audience wants to watch the fight and not the commercials. I think we deserve better.
